MEP®. JOINT FLEX is a scratch resistant, water-repellent, flexible tile grout

MEP®. JOINT FLEX is designed for grouting ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, natural stone…

  • Interior / External floor
  • Interior / External wall
  • Pool or pond

MEP®. JOINT FLEX is recommended for:

  • Pointing tile subjected to limited surface movement
  • Pointing tile subjected to medium/heavy traffic: malls, hotels, showrooms…
  • Pointing tile subjected to constant water immersion (pool, pond…)
  • Scratch-resistant formulation
  • Suitable for joint widths up to 10mm
  • Limited flexibility to absorb movement from the surface
  • Water-repellent surface for reduced water penetration and improved resistance to staining
  • Contains anti-fungus admixtures for lasting protection from mould growth
  1. Surface preparation

    ▪ Tiles must be firmly in place
    ▪ The joints must be free of excess adhesive and loose material
    ▪ Joints should be moistened (not wet) prior to the application of the grout
    ▪ Quality of the grout will depend on the uniformity and the cleanness of the joint
Adhesive should normally be left for at least 24 hours before grouting, unless using a rapid set adhesive
For swimming pools leave for at least 3 days before grouting

  2. Mixing ratio: 6 lts (+/- 0.5lts) water per 20 kg bag

    ▪ Gradually add the powder into the required water quantity while mixing to avoid lumps forming
    ▪ It is highly recommended to use a low speed mechanical mixer
    ▪ Mix thoroughly to a creamy consistency
    ▪ Allow mix to gel for 5 min and then remix before use

  3. Application

    ▪ Using a rubber float, apply the grout diagonally to the tile to a small area at a time
    ▪ Completely fill the joints leaving no voids
    ▪ Excess grout should be removed immediately using a rubber float held at 90° to the tiles.
    ▪ When the grout has become firm in the joints (will depend on temperatures) the tiles should be cleaned with a clean damp sponge until all residues is removed
    ▪ When dry, polish the tiles with a clean, dry cloth

For porous tiles, speed up cleaning to avoid staining

  4. Allowance for movement

Flexible joints should be incorporated to allow for slight movements due to changes in temperature, humidity etc. as indicated by DTU 52.2:
    ▪ Where the tiling meets other materials (e.g. floor perimeters)
    ▪ Along all internal corners – vertically and horizontally
    ▪ Over existing movement joints or changes in background material
    ▪ Dividing large tiled areas into bays

    Do not use for:
    ▪ Areas subject to chemical agents: use MEP®. JOINT EPOXY
    ▪ Areas subjected to high-pressure cleaning: use MEP®. JOINT EPOXY

    ▪ Never add water if the mixture has started to set
    ▪ Do not apply in wet weather, or in temperatures below 5ºC or over 35ºC
    ▪ Should the mortar stiffen up then discard the product and mix a fresh batch
    ▪ An excess in mixing ratio and a poor preparation of the joints leads to a shading of the grout

    ▪ Packaging: 20kg triple-ply paper bags
    ▪ Handling and storage: 6 months if kept in a dry cool place in the original packaging
In more extreme conditions this period might be shortened
    ▪ Tools : Low speed mechanical mixer, trowel, rubber float, sponge
